The 54321 Challenge
The 54321 Challenge - 5 people, 4 days, 3 cycles, 2 mountains and 1 cause to raise much needed funds for a number of charities.
Adrian signed up for this gruelling challenge which required him to start extensive training in March this year in order to be prepared. Congratulations to Adrian and all those who took part in order to raise money for a variety of charities.
The Challenge took place from Thursday, September 6 to Sunday, September 9 inclusive and included the following:
Day 1 (Thursday 6) – Cycle the Ring of Kerry (179km)
Day 2 (Friday 7) – Climb Carrantuohill (Highest mountain in Ireland - 1038m)
Day 3 (Saturday 8) – Cycle from Killarney to the foot of Mount Brandon and then climb Mount Brandon ( 78.5km cycle and 953m climb)
Day 4 (Sunday 9) – Cycle from Dingle to Killarney (65km)
The Challenge is now entering its sixth year and it has raised €95,000 to date. In the first two years it was undertaken by one team of five people and the third year saw three teams take to the roads and mountains. The last two years saw five teams of five people take part in this epic challenge to raise much needed money to support three Charities: Skellig Stars (a group of children and adult athletes with special needs), Sera Husky (animal rescue) and Grow (World Community Mental Health Movement in Ireland).
